The NCES Kids' Zone provides information to help students learn about schools; decide on a college; find a public library; engage in several games, quizzes and skill building about math, probability, graphing, and mathematicians; and to learn many interesting facts about education.
How can you use it?
Kids' Zone lends itself for math lessons because of the great graphing abilities. The graphing tools could be used in other subject areas since it is very easy to set up.
There is a lot of information about libraries that could be used for different classes. Students can learn research skills and connect to their community.
In high school it can be used to explore colleges and access other educational information.
Why would you use it?
There are many different tools that students can use. There is a lot of information all in a safe site that is designed for kids. For the graphing tools, they are self explanatory and easy to use. There would not have to be a separate lesson to learn how to use the tool.
Pros- This site is very user friendly. There are many different ways that this site can be used.
Cons- There are games on the site. Personally, I do not mind if students play games after they get their assignment done. However, this may be a negative for some eventhough the games are educational.
